Mountain climbing

PSD “Stolac” was founded on June 26, 1950. The society began to work more actively with the construction of a mountain lodge in the village of Mala Gostilja in 1981.

Until the breakup of Yugoslavia, the society was constantly strengthening in terms of personnel and material. War events in these areas led to a halt in the work of the society, and the mountain lodge burned down. After the Dayston Peace Agreement, PSD “Stolac” renewed its activities.

Today, the society has around 120 members and is a member of the Mountaineering Association of Republika Srpska. Members of our society have conquered the most important peaks in Europe, such as Mont Blanc, Grand Paradiso, Gross Glockner, Marmolada, Musala, Olympus and others.

PSD “Stolac” pays special attention to mountain orientation. Our men’s and women’s teams are multiple champions of the Republic of Srpska and Intermunicipal Youth Sports Games (MOSI).

The mountain lodge Gostilja has been renovated and can accommodate about 30 mountaineers for the night.

The society organizes two mass mountaineering campaigns. The first one, called “Let’s take a walk in the Rzav hills”, takes place the weekend closest to May 15, and the second one, “Climbing Veliki Stolac 1673 m above sea level”, takes place on the last weekend in September.

The society has its own guide service and organizes excursions in the territory of our municipality. The most interesting locations are the Visegrad mountains, a tour of the Drina and Rzav canyons, as well as the Pancic spruce habitat.
